When the numbers on your labs DON’T match how exhausted you feel.
Maybe you've already been told you're prediabetic, insulin resistant, or dealing with thyroid dysfunction that is hindering weight loss.
You've cut carbs. You've tried counting calories and macros. You've been told (likely more than once) to just eat less and move more.
But the number on the scale simply won't budge, your energy still crashes every afternoon, and cravings show up right when you're trying hardest to avoid them.
Your cholesterol has crept up. Your waist has changed even though your weight hasn't moved much. Sleep doesn't feel as restful as it used to.
Or maybe nothing has been formally diagnosed yet—you just know your body isn't responding to food and exercise the way it used to, and you want to understand why.
Metabolic symptoms rarely show up alone. They can overlap with thyroid function, hormones, sleep, stress, and nutrient status.
That's why we don't look at blood sugar in isolation.
We test deeply, listen carefully, and build a plan that addresses what’s actually going on.
A Wider Lens on Metabolic Health
A fasting glucose or A1C can be an important part of a metabolic evaluation—but it isn't the only information that may matter.
Your symptoms, medical history, medications, previous lab trends, meal patterns, sleep, stress levels, and other factors can all provide useful context.
At Wilderness Hive, testing is individualized rather than automatically ordering the same panel for everyone.
Depending on your history and clinical needs, evaluation may include:
Glucose Regulation Fasting glucose • A1C • Fasting insulin • HOMA-IR
Lipid & Cardiovascular Markers Full lipid panel • ApoB and additional markers when clinically appropriate
Thyroid & Hormonal Factors TSH, sex hormones, and other markers when clinically relevant
Nutrient Status Iron studies • Ferritin • Vitamin D • Vitamin B12 and other nutrients when appropriate
And most importantly, we interpret those results alongside you—your symptoms, history, goals, and how you actually feel.
Our Approach to Metabolic Care
Sustainable, not restrictive.
Blood sugar advice often swings between two extremes: cut everything out, or don't worry about it until it's a real problem. We believe there's a more thoughtful middle ground.
Your plan should be built on your labs and your life, not a list of forbidden foods.
Testing should answer a clinical question. Treatment should have a reason behind it. And progress should come from small, consistent changes, not another restrictive diet you can't sustain.
OUR APPROACH
Your Questions, Answered
-
Women dealing with insulin resistance, prediabetes, stubborn weight loss resistance, energy crashes, or labs that don’t match how they feel. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to start. If you know your body isn’t responding the way it used to and want to understand why, you’re in the right place
-
It starts with a 30-minute virtual intake, where we go over your history, symptoms, and goals. Then we order labs based on your individual needs. Once your results are in, we meet for a 60-minute visit to walk through them together and discuss next steps in your care.
-
No. Your plan is built around your labs and your real life, not a list of forbidden foods. The focus is on small, consistent changes you can actually sustain.
-
Most patients who come to us have already tried cutting calories or carbs. This isn't another restrictive plan — we start with your labs and your life to understand what's actually driving your symptoms, then build something around sustainable habits instead of another diet you can't stick with long-term.
-
Not automatically. Medication can be a helpful tool, but only for the right candidate. If it’s appropriate for you, we’ll talk through the options, benefits, and risks together, and any medication is carefully dosed and monitored.
-
Yes. Metabolic health and thyroid function often overlap, so we look at them together. If thyroid care is your main concern, see our Thyroid Health Optimization Page.
-
Wilderness Hive Integrative Medicine is a cash-pay practice, which means we don't bill insurance directly. That lets your care be built around what's actually going on with you — not around what an insurance plan will or won't cover.
-
